Robinson Township Historical Society

The Township Municipal Complex is home to The Robinson Township Historical Society and on a visit you can relax and peruse many photographs, artifacts and search for your past in books and lists that confirm official and community events. Richard Story, President, carefully catalogs acquisitions and often shares his own family's recollections of growing up in Groveton. Come and visit!

Membership to the Historical Society is free and meets once a month. Members are encouraged to participate by staffing the museum rooms once a month from 1-3:30 p.m. on a Tuesday or Thursday. The Historical Society is looking forward to an expansion within the Municipal Complex to be able to feature more Robinson memorabilia.

This is just a tiny peek inside the Robinson History Book

A well-known family name in Robinson Township is Phillips. One Phillips family is John Phillips and his three children who came from Ireland in 1780. John's son Samuel patented a tract of land in 1788 measuring 400 acres. The cost in lawful money of the times was three pounds, three shillings, and six pence. At that time Robinson Township was in Washington County. The area was called "Deerpark," and was said to be located in Moon Run. The sheepskin is dated February 29, 1788. The Phillips' sons were farmers and elders at Union Church. The remaining farm area today borders on Silver Lane where the family home was built in 1850. There were many children whose families remain in the area today -- some familiar names are McCurdy, Scott, McMichael, McGregor, Phillips and Glass.
